Situation

As a leader in global logistics, Damco’s growth and profitability depends on close collaboration between people at origins and destinations around the world. Management recognized that stronger internal communication and interpersonal relationships could become a competitive advantage and knew there was a gap to close. The culture still reflected the many acquisitions from which Damco was formed and the Maersk Group internal communication infrastructure wasn’t adequately supporting the specific needs of Damco.

Solution

We first clarified the communication gaps and priorities using a culture driver/impact survey. With the goals clear, we designed and helped develop a set of internal communication channels to address them. The Damco People Network is an enterprise social network (based on Jive technology) that makes it easier for people to connect, communicate and collaborate. Damco People News is a monthly email that keeps all employees informed about the subjects our survey prioritized, while highlighting activity on the social network and establishing a channel for urgent announcements.
